Biography

ANDREA SILVESTRI entered Diplomacy in 1993, starting with Development Cooperation. From 1996 to 1999 he was First Secretary at the Italian Embassy in Ivory Coast. Afterwards he was Consul in Paris, until 2003. Back to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he dealt with Personnel and then with the European Union, as a Head of Office for Institutional and Legal Affairs and as Legal Expert at the Intergovernmental Conference on the reform of the Treaties. From 2009 to 2013 he was First Counselor at the Permanent Representation to the EU, covering numerous positions related to foreign policy and coordinating infringement procedures. From 2013 to 2019 he was Diplomatic Advisor to the Italian Minister of Agriculture. Back to the MFA, he coordinated the sectors of International Maritime Law and International Humanitarian Law at the Legal Affairs Service.

Author of numerous publications (on EU law and political and economic issues), since 29 October 2020 he is Ambassador of Italy to North Macedonia.
